The Smooth Transitions Story
Like most things great, it started by filling a need

Barbara H. Morris

Smooth Transitions founder, Barbara H. Morris, saw that there was an enormous need for compassionate and professional guidance through transition when helping her own family move from home to independent living.

In 1995, she took her 20 years of experience in the health care industry and brought that same level of compassion and professionalism to Smooth Transitions®. Since then, she has spread the Smooth Transitions brand internationally. She personally trains each location’s owner, and provides ongoing education through the Smooth Transitions Academy.

Her leadership and exemplary service has been recognized by the National Association of Senior Move Managers, who presented
her with their most prestigious award, The Margit Novack Award of Excellence.

Each Smooth Transitions location embodies the same compassion, professionalism, and exemplary quality of its founder.

Eastern North Carolina Owners

After multiple international moves, Matt and Liz McCoy saw first hand why moving is classified as one of life’s top five most stressful events. The McCoys opened a local, Smooth Transitions location after their most recent move brought them and their four children back to their home of Eastern NC from their most recent residence in Central Asia.  They quickly realized that there were many in the area who needed assistance and support during one of life’s most difficult events.

They saw the need for a service that would provide the encouragement, care and direction that is necessary for coordinating all aspects of a major move.  While seniors are not the only group they serve, they do have a special concern for them given the particular challenges that they and their families experience with later-life moves.  Matt and Liz are members of the National Association of Senior & Specialty Move Managers, and are committed to providing compassion and respect to seniors and their families as they go through this transition; from the end of one season, to the beginning of the next.
